CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston can take a huge step in reaching the CAA Tournament on Saturday when the Cougars host Elon in a 1 p.m. Senior Day match at Ralph Lundy Field.
The Cougars are also looking to extend their winning streak to four and continue a goal-scoring splurge that has seen them put the ball in the back of the net 13 times in the past three matches.
Charleston enters the weekend with eight points in the CAA standings and a tie for fifth with Delaware. That duo trails Stony Brook (14), Drexel (12) and Hofstra and Monmouth (11) with the remaining five teams all within three points of the Cougars and Blue Hens.
The top six teams at the end of the regular season qualify for the tournament. Following the game with the Phoenix, the Cougars have one more conference game remaining at Delaware on October 28.
The recent offensive surge has moved a pair of Cougars onto the CAA statistical leaderboard. Freshman Peter Thomas is tied for fourth in the conference with seven goals and is fifth with 17 points. Leonardo D'Ambrosio is tied for third with seven assists and tied for seventh with 15 points.
The Cougars lead the all-time series, 12-11-2, but the Phoenix have won five in a row including a 3-2 win at home last year with D'Ambrosio and Chris Elliott scoring the Charleston goals.
