CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston beach volleyball opens their 2023 and inaugural season as a Sun Belt member Friday at the Jacksonville Tournament.
The Cougars get the season going 10 a.m. with Palm Beach Atlantic, the first of a tripleheader from the Payne Sand Volleyball Courts. Charleston then plays No. 8 and Sun Belt foe Georgia State at 2 p.m. and wraps the day with a 4 p.m. showdown with the host Jacksonville.
Charleston then takes on Tampa Saturday morning at 8 a.m. and end their five-match weekend at Noon with Tusculum.
The Cougars were picked to finish fourth in the Sun Belt in 2023 with their first conference match coming against the favorites in Georgia State.
Charleston finished the 2022 season with a program-record 22 wins and made a run to the ASUN semifinals with wins over Eastern Kentucky, Mercer and Stephen F. Austin.
Friday's matchup with the host Dolphins is the first of five total meetings in 2023 as the Cougars take on Jacksonville at three other weekend tournaments. Saturday is also the first of two meetings scheduled with Tampa, the second coming in April at the Coastal Carolina Tournament.
