CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston beach volleyball returns to action after a weekend off to host the 2023 Beach Blast from Creekside Tennis & Swim Club. The Cougars welcome Sun Belt foe UNCW and Erskine for a two-day, six-match tournament.
 
The Cougars and Seahawks get the weekend started with a 10a.m. match then meet again Saturday at 12p.m. Charleston is slated to take on Erskine both days at 2p.m. while the Seahawks and Fleet meet Friday at Noon and Saturday morning at 10a.m.
 
In their last action Charleston went 4-0 at the 2023 Charleston Classic taking down Catawba, No. 20 Coastal Carolina, Berry and Eastern Kentucky. Those four wins pushed the Cougars to an impressive 13-1 at home dating back to the start of 2022 with a chance to improve that mark further this weekend.
 
Last season at the 2022 Beach Blast, the Cougars went 6-0 over the course of three days taking down UNCW, Erskine, Huntington, Tusculum, Texas A&M Kingsville and Catawba. Three of the Charleston wins came via 5-0 sweeps, two came at a 4-1 margin as well as a single 3-2 decision over UNCW.
 
UNCW enters the weekend 6-5 overall winning five of their last six matches including a win against Erskine on Wednesday at Coastal Carolina. Meanwhile Erskine enters the weekend 2-12 overall having dropped their last 10 matches including a pair Wednesday to UNCW and Coastal Carolina.
