Cougars Host Catamounts for Nonconference Series

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston returns home after a four-game road trip for a nonconference weekend series with former conference rival Western Carolina. Friday's meeting is the first since 2013 when Charleston was a member of the Southern Conference and marks the 56th all-time matchup between programs. Only 10 of the previous 55 meetings weren't considered conference games with all 10 taking place during postseason play in the SoCon Tournament.
Charleston returns home where they own a 17-6 record this season and have won all but one home series. Meanwhile the Catamounts are 5-7 on the road and play their first weekend series on the road outside of conference play. Western Carolina split their first two road series with UNCG and Mercer.
Charleston has won eight of the nine series meetings in the Holy City against Western Carolina dating back to the 1999 season. The Cougars are 20-7 in the City of Charleston during that span.
Western Carolina is coming off a midweek win at USC Upstate Tuesday as the bats erupted for a 13-1 win over the Spartans. Prior to that the Catamounts dropped two out of three to SoCon favorite Wofford at home taking the Saturday tilt. Charleston enters play off a Wednesday night loss at No. 10 Coastal Carolina but swept Monmouth the prior weekend on the road.

Parking: Due to overlap with baseball and a home Charleston Battery game, parking will be limited Saturday. Parking will still be free, but fans are encouraged to arrive early to Patriots Point for baseball and could expect traffic delays leaving the area postgame. College of Charleston baseball fans can park in the Blue Lot (grass lot behind the grandstands) ahead of Saturday's home contest against Western Carolina.

- Western Carolina is hitting .275 as a team with a 6.34 ERA in their 35 games played. Of their 107 extra-base hits, 49 have come via the home run led by James Hinson's team-high 10.
- Four Catamounts have gone deep at least eight times (Hinson, 10| Pascanel Ferreras, 8 | Zach Ketterman, 8| Nate Stocum, 8) and their 49 total rank third in the SoCon behind Mercer and Samford.
- Nick Torres leads the Catamount pitching staff with a 2.88 ERA across 34.1 innings of work making 13 appearances and starting three games. Kyle Riesselman (1-1, 5.40) and Matt Schepel (2-1, 4.75) have made the most starts for Western Carolina and have all struck out at least 28 batters in 30-plus innings of work.
