Charleston Sweeps Revolutionaries in Weekend Finale

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- College of Charleston volleyball swept George Washington 3-0 in their Eagle Invitational finale Saturday morning as six Cougars had five-or-more kills and the defense held the Revolutionaries to just a .163 mark.
 
After taking the first set in extra points, Charleston found themselves in a tight second before Anna Smith downed four kills down the stretch (she finished the set with six) to keep the momentum with the Cougars. That stretch from Smith helped keep the Cougars in control before closing out the match with a 25-16 final stanza.

Key Cougars
  • Lexi Wierzbicki finished her weekend with nine kills and 11 digs while blocking a team-best three GW attempts.
  • Hannah Scott followed her 40-assist performance last night with 31 Saturday morning along with five kills, tying a season-high for the freshman.
  • Olivia Mae Van Der Werff closed the match with three of her five kills in the final set along with a solo block.
  • Elli Kinneyn led the Cougar backline once again with 12 digs, her fourth-straight match to pace the defense.
  • Sofie Vogel added a solo block and seven kills – tallying at least two in every set.
  • Anna Smith took over in the final stages of the second set putting down four kills to help close out a 25-22 win. Smith would go on to finish the day with a team-high 11 kills on 24 swings thanks to six on 10 swings in that second set.
 
Match Notes
  • Charleston took the opening set for a seventh time this season, needing extra points to close it out 28-26.
  • Saturday's sweep was the second in as many weeks after downing Le Moyne in three quick sets inside TD Arena last weekend.
  • Charleston's win was the third time the Cougars have held the opposition below .170 moving to 2-1 in those games.
