RICHMOND, VA. – After spearheading an effort that held a strong Drexel team in check most of the way, College of Charleston graduate student Ethan Garvey has been named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week.
Garvey, in his first season as a Cougar after transferring from Evansville, played a lead role in limiting the Dragons to only eight shots and just two on target in a 2-1 victory in the CAA opener on Saturday. The win kept Charleston undefeated through three games (1-0-2).
The New Orleans native locked down the back line and was dominant in the air, especially in dealing with service from wide areas, to help the Cougars maintain control of the game and earn their second straight win in a conference opener.
Charleston looks to continue its early season success on Tuesday when Coastal Carolina visits Ralph Lundy Field for a non-conference encounter. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
