Men's Basketball Hosts Monmouth for First Time in Program History

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's basketball team returns to action Saturday when the Monmouth Hawks visit TD Arena. Action is set for 4:30 p.m.

STORYLINES
  • The Cougars are one of two unbeaten teams in league play entering Saturday's contest (Drexel). Charleston is on a 8-game winning streak after road victories at Hofstra and Stony Brook last week and a victory over Elon Thursday night. The Cougars are tied for the 7th-longest active win streak nationally. The Cougars' only setback since Nov. 17 was to nationally ranked FAU.
  • Graduate transfer Bryce Butler earned Player of the Week honors after two lights out performances in wins over Hofstra and Stony Brook. Butler shot 76.5% (13-of-17) from the floor, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range.
  • The Cougars grabbed 52 rebounds in Thursday's win over Elon, the most vs. D1 competition since Dec. 3, 2022 vs. The Citadel. Eight different Cougars grabbed at least one offensive board. 
  • The teams last met on January 19, 2023 in West Long Branch where the Cougars defeated the Phoenix 69-55. Reyne Smith led the Cougars with 27 points. This will be the only regular season meeting this year between the programs. The programs met for the first time in ever a season ago, making this Monmouth's first ever trip to TD Arena.
  • Charleston currently ranks third in the nation in three-point attempts per game (31.2). The Cougars shot 41% from three during CAA opening weekend and 50% from the field. 
  • Ben Burnham paces CofC with 13.1 points per game followed closely by Smith and Ante Brzovic with 11.6 each. Burnham and Brzovic each dropped 20 points on Thursday. 
  • CJ Fulton ranks fifth in the country in assist/turnover ratio (4.12).
SCOUTING THE HAWKS
  • Monmouth won its first two CAA games before dropping a road contest at UNCW on Thursday. Xander Rice finished with 26 points at UNCW, the 11th time he's posted 20+ this season. Monmouth finished non-conference play 7-6.
  • The Hawks lead the CAA in three-point percentage at 37.6%
  • Rice paces the Hawks with 19.9 points per game followed by Jack Collins with 10.9
  • Head coach King Rice is two wins away from 200 career victories
