Men's Basketball Travels to Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. - Charleston travels to Hampton to take on the Pirates Thursday evening at the Convocation Center. The Cougars are 3-0 all-time against the Pirates.

STORYLINES
  • The Cougars are coming off back-to-back CAA losses, their first back-to-back defeats since November 17. Following Thursday's contest, Charleston will travel to Campbell for their first CAA game against the Camels in program history.
  • Junior Reyne Smith will be a Cougar to watch over the next few contests as he approaches 1,000 career points. He sits at 969 entering Thursday. Smith set the Charleston single game three record with nine makes earlier this season vs. St. Joseph's. He is third all-time in career triples made in school history (231). The current roster features three 1,000 point scorers (Ante Brzovic, Bryce Butler, Frankie Policelli).
  • Charleston ranks ninth in the nation in bench points per game (33.74), third in three-point attempts per game (31.2) and 19th in total rebounds per game (40.84). Individually, CJ Fulton ranks seventh in the country in assist/turnover ratio (3.90).
  • Brzovic leads the Cougars with 12.5 point per game followed by Ben Burnham with 12.3 and Reyne Smith with 10.8. Brzovic posted 27 points, his most in a Cougar uniform, and 11 rebounds at UNCW for this fourth double-double of the season. He also leads the team with 5.1 rebounds per game.
SCOUTING THE PIRATES
  • The Pirates are 4-15 overall and 0-7 in CAA play. Hampton is coming off an 85-77 loss to Monmouth. Heading into the final minute of the contest, the Pirates trailed by four unitl Monmouth forced turnovers and offensive rebounds sealed the win for the Hawks. Jordan Nesbitt had a team-high 18 points while Kyrese Mullen had 17 points and 14 rebounds. Mullen through 19 games this season has the eighth most double-doubles in the country (10).
  • Head coach Edward Joyner Jr.'s team in their last five games have shot 40 percent or better from three. Nesbitt and Jerry Deng have been shooting at 50% and 47% from three, respectively.
