
Cougars Take Down Elon in Thrilling Victory

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston women's soccer defeated conference foe Elon in a 3-0 victory on Sunday afternoon.
The Cougars came out hot, when Emma Wennar drove the ball up the right side in the first two minutes of the game. With a shot to the back of the net, Wennar converted for an early 1-0 lead for Charleston. The Cougars went into the break with the one-goal lead.
Outshooting the Phoenix 18-8, the Cougars doubled their lead in the 72nd minute with a finish from Millie Cluxton in the box.
In the 79th minute, Elon had a chance to get on the board when a foul in the box was called for a penalty kick. With a wide-right shot off target, the Cougars held the 2-0 lead.
Bella Antonio finished off the day for the Cougars with a goal in the final three minutes of the game. A breakthrough pass to Antonio gave her an open shot on goal, where she volleyed the ball into the back right corner of the net. The Cougars ended the day with a dominant 3-0 victory over Elon, who sits at the top of the CAA conference, giving them just their second loss of the season.
Charleston advances to 2-2-3 in conference play, tallying their eighth shutout of the season.
Charleston will return to action on Thursday, facing Hampton on the road. Kickoff is slated for 12:00 p.m. and will be livestreamed on FloFC.
