CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston won its 12th match at home Friday, beating William & Mary in three sets (25-18, 25-17 and 25-15).
The Cougars improve to 16-5 overall and a CAA-best 8-1 in league play. The Tribe slip to 7-11 and 3-6 in conference action.
CofC hit .392 as a unit, paced by
Caitlyn Callahan's .714 attacking percentage. The Cougars had just seven attacking errors in the match.
WHEN THE GAME WAS DECIDED:
- Charleston jumped out to a commanding 13-3 lead in the third set, with Banitt recording five kills during the frame.
CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST WILLIAM & MARY:
- Emily Banitt (11 kills and 10 digs) and Hannah Scott (34 assists and 10 digs) both recorded double-doubles for Charleston.
- Callahan and Emily Dykes both tallied three blocks for the Cougars.
- CofC's .392 attacking percentage is the second-best in a match in 2024.
- Charleston hit .459 in set one and .417 in set two.
- Banitt recorded four service aces, including three in a row in set two.
- Scott tallied her 1,000th career assist during the second set.
- Tynley Smeltzer had a pair of service aces, giving her 100 for her career.
OF NOTE:
- Charleston is 17-5 overall against William & Mary and a perfect 10-0 in three-set matches.
- Charleston's 12 home victories are the second-most in the country behind Nebraska's 13.
- The 12 home wins are also the most in a season for the Cougars since 2018.
- The Cougars remain undefeated on Fridays, improving to 7-0.
- Banitt and Scott both picked up their 10th double-double of the season.
- Charleston picked up its seventh straight set win in 2024.
