CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston women's soccer defeated William & Mary on the road by a score of 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.
The Cougars found the back of the net early, when a pass from Delaney Dawes found Emma Wennar on the right side, slipping it past the keeper into the back of the net.
The Tribe quickly responded, scoring off a corner kick two minutes later. Charleston continued to press, tallying 13 shots in the first half. The Cougars were able to enter the break with the lead when a cross from Millie Cluxton found Mary Alexander in the box. A shot wide-left from Alexander was tapped in by Lilli Ray for the 2-1 lead in the 42nd minute.
In a quick start to the second half, Emmie Wannemacher found Emma Wennar from a long pass up the right side into the box. Wennar took a quick touch around the goalkeeper and finished the ball for her second goal of the day.
William & Mary was able to strike back in the 53rd minute, but were unable to overcome the deficit, leaving the Cougars to walk away with the 3-2 victory.
With the win, the Cougars find their first conference victory of the season, improving to 1-2-2 in the CAA.
Charleston will return to action next Thursday, October 10 hosting Towson at Patriots Point. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. and will be livestreamed on FloFC.
