Charleston Reaches 20 Wins

WILMINGTON, N.C. – College of Charleston defeated UNCW in three sets (25-23, 25-19 and 25-21) to earn its 20th victory of the season Saturday in Hanover Hall.
 
The Cougars sit at 20-8 overall and 12-3 in the CAA while the Seahawks drop to 7-15 and 4-11 in league action.
 
Caitlyn Callahan dominated in her return to UNCW, where she spent the previous two seasons, recording 10 kills, five blocks and a .600 hitting pct. 
 
 
WHEN THE GAME WAS DECIDED:
  • Emily Banitt recorded three kills in a four-point span for the Cougars late in the third set, helping Charleston earn its 11th straight set victory in 2024.
 
 
CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST UNCW:
  • Charleston hit .294 as a unit, totaling 47 kills.
  • Emily Banitt paced the team with a game-high 19 kills.
  • The Cougars had eight blocks in the win, tallying three in each of the first two sets.
  • Hannah Scott dished out a game-high 37 assists and had six kills and seven digs.
  • Five different Cougars had five-plus kills in the win.
  • Charleston had eight blocks, with Callahan being part of five.
 
 
OF NOTE:
  • Charleston improves to 31-11 overall versus UNCW and 12-3 in three-set matches.
  • The Cougars reached the 20-win mark for the first time since 2018.
  • Head coach Jason Kepner has recorded at least 20 victories in 11 seasons at Charleston.
  • Charleston's 12 wins in league play are the most since it went 15-1 in 2017.
  • Six of the Cougars last seven wins have been in three sets.
  • CofC's 284.5 blocks are now eighth all-time in program history.
  • Callahan's is tenth all-time in the Rally-Scoring Era with 129 total blocks. Callahan has the most blocks in a season by a Cougar since Sarah Havel's 139 blocks in 2011.
  • Smeltzer's 16 digs Friday gives her 1,471 for her career: 29 shy of 1,500.
