Wiggans Announces Four Newcomers for 2024

2/7/2024 11:23:00 AM

CHARLESTON, S.C.- The Charleston men's soccer team welcomed four newcomers prior to the 2024 season, head coach Keith Wiggans announced.

Noah Gold joins the program as a transfer from West Virginia, playing two years for the Mountaineers. The Maryland native participated in 15 matches during his time as a defender for West Virginia, contributing to their shoutout versus Dayton and their 2023 NCAA Tournament run.

"Noah is a great addition to the team," Coach Wiggans said. "He has played at a high level and will come in to strengthen our back line.  He takes pride in his defensive abilities and is a good leader on the field.  He is driven to grow his game and I am excited to work with him."

James Barrett comes as a transfer from Radford, entering his sophomore year. From Ocean City, Maryland, Barrett had the second most minutes of any freshman on his squad. Barrett chose the College for the team chemistry and quality education.

"James is a great young man," says Wiggans. "He has a permanent smile on his face and enjoyable to be around.  He has played a lot of college minutes and will bring good experience to our group.   He has a high soccer IQ and can play a couple different positions for us. I am excited to have him as part of our group."

Remy Coddington joins as an incoming freshman. Born in Bermuda, Coddington is a member of the Bermuda National Team, making his senior debut in 2021. He attended high school in Bournemouth, England at Leaf Academy.

"Remy is an exciting player," Wiggans said. "He is a winger who has incredible athletic ability combined with good skill.  Remy is passionate about the game and has a great work rate.  He is great young man and great addition to the team."

James Watson comes to Charleston as a transfer from CAA member Delaware, playing over 400 minutes for the Blue Hens. A defender from Chesterfield, N.J., Watson chose the Cougars for the opportunity to develop as a person on and off the field.

"James is young man who has something to prove," says Coach Wiggans. "He is driven to grow his game and will increase the depth of our back line.  He has a good physical presence and a high comfort level on the ball.  I am excited about him joining our program."

The team will return to action on February 21 to kick off their spring slate versus the Charleston Battery.
