The Cougars tried to start a two-out rally in the bottom of the sixth with two runners on but were unable to plate a run.
Shealyn Starks made a stellar defensive play in the top of the seventh to throw out the go-ahead run at home after diving into the first base bag.
Charleston was unable to score in the seventh either, forcing extra innings where the Seawolves hit a two-RBI single in the top of the eighth to solidify their win.
The Cougars and Seawolves will face off again at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at Patriots Point.
