Cougars Look to Take Season Series from Buccaneers

4/15/2024 3:11:00 PM

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston hosts Charleston Southern on Tuesday afternoon in the final game of the season series with first pitch at Patriots Point moved up two hours to 4 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youths. Gates open at 3 p.m.

The teams have split the first two meetings this season with both winning on the road. CSU held off a Cougar rally for a 7-5 win on March 12, and Charleston returned the favor with a 12-2 victory last Tuesday.

Kevin Madden, Avery Neaves and Luke Wood hit home runs in the loss to the Bucs. Trotter Harlan homered twice and drove in four runs, and Cole Singsank also went deep and knocked in five in the Cougar win.

The Cougars hold a 61-18 lead in the all-time series and had won five in a row before losing earlier this season.

Charleston has won 10 of its last 11 to raise its record to 24-10 overall and 9-3 in the CAA, good for a second-place tie with Northeastern. CSU is 16-20 but has won eight of its 12 Big South contests and is tied for third at 8-4.

The Cougars are using a combination of powerful hitting, stingy pitching and solid defense in their 11-game run. They have reached double figures in runs six times, have at least 10 hits in nine games, limited the opposition to three or fewer runs on six occasions and committed only nine errors.

The long ball has been a prevalent part of the attack. Charleston has hit 25 home runs in the past 11 outings, including a season-high four in two of the three games in a sweep of Monmouth over the weekend. Harlan, Madden and Cole Mathis each turned in a two-home run game last week.

The Cougars remain at Patriots Point this weekend as they conclude a seven-game homestand with a critical three-game series against William & Mary, which is just one game back of Charleston in the CAA standings.
