
Tippett Homers in Third Straight in Cougar Sweep

CofC earned its second conference sweep, improving to 25-25 overall and 15-12 in the CAA. The Phoenix fall to 19-31 and 10-20 in conference action.
CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST ELON:
- Charleston jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second following redshirt freshman Will Burgess' single and Tippett's two-run blast.
- The bats stayed hot with four runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
- Leading 4-0, graduate Dylan Johnson doubled in Tippett before scoring on sophomore Alex LaCoste's two-run double down the left field line.
- CofC made it an 11-0 ballgame in the fifth, sending nine to the dish. Redshirt senior Ethan Plyler capped off the frame beating out an infield single for his second of two singles in the win.
- Redshirt junior Carson Bryant earned his third victory of the year, allowing just one earned run on four hits over 5.0 innings of work. Bryant also fanned three Phoenix.
- Freshman Kaden Myers earned his first collegiate save, tossing the final three innings of the ballgame. In the shutout frames, Myers punched out three while yielding just one hit and one free pass.
- Five different Cougars had multi-hit performances Sunday, highlighted by Plyler and Smith, who both collected three knocks.
OF NOTE:
- Charleston is now 50-33 versus Elon and 21-12 on the road. The Cougars have won 10 straight ballgames as the visitors.
- CofC improved to 5-2 in the month of May and are 27-9 in the month dating back to the 2024 campaign.
- Johnson threw out his 23rd runner of the season, giving him sole possession of second in program history.
- Tippett posted a 2.171 OPS over the weekend with three homers, six RBI, seven runs scored and 16 assists defensively.
- Plyler extended his hitting streak to nine games with the win and has multiple hits in seven of those contests.
- Freshmen Jake Amman and Nick Diaz have reached base safely in their last nine and seven games, respectively.
- Charleston recorded six doubles Sunday, the first time achieving the feat since May 16, 2025, versus Hofstra
- CofC's offense hit .362 with 28 runs scored, 8 doubles, a triple, 4 homers, 16 walks and a 1.020 OPS at Elon.
- Charleston's pitching staff posted a 2.16 ERA with a 0.91 WHIP and held Elon to a .209 batting average against.
