MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - The College of Charleston softball team lost 15-3 to Georgia Southern on Wednesday evening at Patriots Point in the teams' third meeting of the season. The Cougars previously beat the Eagles 5-1 on February 16 at the Bubly Invitational but lost 3-2 in Statesboro on March 13.
Both teams were scoreless through the first two innings despite back-to-back base hits by
Savannah Lockhart and
Malaka Belser in the first frame.
The Eagles rallied in the third inning for six runs behind two doubles and four walks. The Cougars responded with back-to-back singles from
Kaytlin Stacey and
Aniz Roman to lead off the bottom of the frame and continue Stacey's five-game hitting streak.Â
Belser then hit a home run for the second straight game and fifth time this season to make it a 6-3 game. She now leads the team with five home runs and 25 RBI.
The Eagles scored again in the fifth before exploding for eight runs in the sixth to seal the win.
The Cougars head to Monmouth this weekend for a series with the Hawks. First pitch is set for Friday at 2:00 p.m. in West Long Branch.
