GREENSBORO, N.C. - A 13-year-old record and a soaring freshman highlighted the two-day action at the Aggie Invitational in Greensboro, N.C., this weekend.
Rhian Purves finished third overall in the 1500 on Friday afternoon and remarkably tied the school record with a time of 4:27.60. Dena O'Brien had held onto the impressive mark by herself for 13 years. Purves also finished third in the 800 (2:13.02), missing the top time in Charleston history by three seconds.
Freshman standout Savannah Stoutt, in her second race ever in the 3k Steeplechase, soloed to a 17-second personal best and moved up to fifth in school history with a time of 11:03.85. Stoutt is now ranked seventh in CAA and has the second-best freshman in the event.
Kaitlynn Bailey continued to impress with a fifth place finish in the 100 (11.80), missing her own school record by less than a tenth of a second. Bailey has the eighth fastest wind-legal time in the CAA for the distance.
The Cougars will now shift their focus to the CAA Championship in Elon, N.C., next weekend.
