CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston softball head coach Tracey Lynch and assistants Laina Holmgren, Maggie Mrowka and Morgan Scott completed their trip through the portal with the addition of three more transfers for the 2025 season.
Joining the Cougars are outfielder Karly Smith (New Mexico), pitcher Kendall Thackston (East Tennessee State) and junior college pitcher/utility player Mollie Forbes (Arizona Western). The pitching staff will also be bolstered with the signing of freshman Lily Thorpe from Raleigh, N.C.
The latest arrivals to the softball program bring the total number of newcomers to 18, including eight transfers and 10 freshmen. Charleston has 27 players on its current roster, the deepest the Cougars have been in many years.
"As a staff we believe we are continuing to bring in very talented athletes who want to win and compete at a high level," said Lynch. "The athletes joining us this fall will allow us to have the depth we have been eager to add to our roster.
"We continued to add offensive pop to our lineup and depth in our outfield by adding Karly. We know she has been working very hard this summer to compete right away."
The staff added six pitchers during the offseason, including transfers Thackston, Forbes and Izzy Alley as well as freshmen Thorpe, Campbell Schaen and Mackenzie Mathis. They join returner Ryley Kutter to give the Cougars a lot more options in the starting rotation and bullpen.
"Our staff has seven talented and dynamic pitchers, and each of them bring something different to the circle," said Lynch. "I am excited to see the leadership arise from any age or level of experience in the bullpen this year.
"I want to thank my staff, my team, our alumni, compliance, support staff, grounds, operations, custodial staff and so many more," continued Lynch. "Each of them is invested in this program, loves Charleston softball and allowed each athlete and family to feel comfortable in the process.
"We are 27 strong and really proud of the progress we made on paper this summer. Now we are looking forward to putting it all together on the field as Team 33."
