
Charleston Travels to Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. – Charleston softball is set to play Coastal Carolina Wednesday, April 8 at St. John Stadium at 6 p.m.
The Cougars are 20-21 overall and 10-5 in the CAA following the weekend's series sweep over Elon. The victories mark the first series sweep against Elon since 2009 and the first in the program's CAA era.
Charleston won 4-3 in the series finale for the seventh walk-off of the season and the second of the weekend. Bronwyn Conroy had the hit that sent Haley Wolsky and Karlee Hughes home for the winning runs. The freshman had three hits over the weekend and one run. She tallied her 30th stolen base to tie the program's single season record set in 2025 by Jay Wrightsman.
Leela Langston and Halle Cannon each hit home runs against the Phoenix. Langston now records a .374 batting average with 43 hits, 18 runs and 27 RBI. Cannon trails the sophomore catcher with a .297 batting average, 27 hits and 14 RBI.
In the circle, Mackenzie Mathis picked up her 11th and 12th wins of the season against the Phoenix. She had nine strikeouts across 10 innings of work, including a complete game that went to eight innings on Friday. Mathis has 92 strikeouts so far this season, ranking second in the CAA.
Coastal Carolina boasts a 20-19 overall record this year and a 6-6 record in the Sun Belt Conference.
Against the Chanticleers, Charleston is 26-52 overall with a 12-25 record on the road. Most recently, Charleston defeated Coastal 4-2 at home in April of 2025 for the first win since 2019 and the first home win since 2017.
In the 2025 victory, Mackenzie Mathis struck out eight as a freshman for her sixth win of the season. Austy Miller had one run and drove in one against the Chanticleers at Patriots Point.
