CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – College of Charleston lost in straight sets (13-25, 10-25 and 20-25) to North Carolina Saturday evening at the Carolina Classic in Carmichael Arena.

The Cougars evened their record to 1-1 on the season while the Tar Heels move to 2-0.
Emily Banitt recorded eight kills in the loss. Defensively, Charleston posted six total blocks. 'Emani Bates had a game-best 19 kills and .667 attack percentage while host UNC had a .356 attack percentage as a team.

WHEN THE GAME WAS DECIDED:
- Looking to hold off the sweep, Charleston stayed level with North Carolina in the third set before the Tar Heels recorded eight of the sets final nine points to secure the victory.

CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST NORTH CAROLINA:
- Banitt has paced Charleston in kills and total attacks in both matches to begin the season.
- Allie Holland a solo block and two block assists in the loss.
- Banitt, Caitlyn Callahan, Holland and Anna Smith recorded multiple blocks.

OF NOTE:
- Charleston now holds a 2-1 record against North Carolina all-time with all three matches occurring in Chapel Hill.
- Deanna Dollar made her collegiate debut Saturday, registering a kill across two sets.
- Holland has collected three-plus blocks in both matches in the Carolina Classic.
- Avery Alexander, Emma Appleman and Jasmin Goei made their season debuts on Saturday.
