HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – College of Charleston women's soccer fell in their conference opener to the Pride 2-1.
Hofstra got on the board in the 20
th minute, when a pass by the Cougar defense was intercepted and put into the back of the net. The Cougars pressed in the final third with eight shots in the first half, but were unable to finish, entering the break down a goal.
The Pride scored again in the 65
th minute to double their lead, despite the dominant Cougar press. Charleston got on the board in the 84
th minute with a finish in the box from
Bubbles Dever to bring the game back to a one-goal deficit.
For the remaining six minutes of the match, the Cougars kept the ball on their offensive half, fighting for the equalizer. Unable to find the back of the net by the final whistle, Charleston leaves the game with their first conference loss.
The Cougars out shot their opponent 20-8 in the matchup, testing the Hofstra goalkeeper for seven saves.
Charleston will remain on Long Island to face Stony Brook on Sunday, September 22. Kickoff is slated for noon and will be livestreamed on FloFC.
