CHARLESTON, S.C. – The No. 23 College of Charleston men's soccer team defeated Delaware at home on Saturday afternoon, advancing to 2-0 in conference play.
The Cougars pressured early, registering five shots on goal within the first five minutes of play. A shot from
Ezra White in the 20
th minute hit the post, closely followed by a shot on goal from
Leonardo D'Ambrosio to almost give the Cougars the lead.
Charleston broke through seconds before the break, when a cross from
Mikey Saunders ricocheted in the box to the feet of
Chris Cushing, who was able to find the back of the net.
Although the Cougars kept up the press, Cushing's goal was the decider in the matchup, as Charleston came away with the 1-0 victory.
The Cougar defense held the Blue Hens to only two shots on goal, while Charleston tallied seven. With the win, the Cougars begin conference play 2-0 for the first time since the 2015 season.
Charleston will return to action on Tuesday, September 24 to face Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Ga. Kickoff is slated for 6:00 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
