SARASOTA, Fla. - The College of Charleston women's golf team defeated seven Power 4 programs and one top 25 ranked squad on their way to fourth place at the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational hosted by Michigan State.
After posting the top first round score, the Cougars played an even par final round to finish 1-over for the tournament. Charleston finished second in the field in total pars (181) and par 5s scoring (4.70).Â
"I am really happy with our finish. We beat a lot of very good teams this week," said head coach
Jamie Futrell. "Congrats to Emma [Schimpf], T5 is a great finish in a field like this."
Emma Schimpf finished 3-under at T5, recording just one bogey in the final round with two birdies. The senior led the field in par 3s scoring (2.67) and was third in total pars (40).
Playing as an individual, rookie
Amy Staveley finished 2-over at T22.
Molly Hardwick and
Emilia von Glahn tied at T25 (+3), while
Adrian Anderson played the Cougars' lowest round of the day with a 69.
Charleston will have a quick turnaround and return to action on Monday, February 24 when they host the Daniel Island Invitational.Â
