MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – College of Charleston scored three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to earn a 7-6 win over Presbyterian and a split of Wednesday's doubleheader at Patriots Point. The Blue Hose won the opener, 4-3, in eight innings.
Game 1 Summary
- The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the second on consecutive singles by Austy Miller, Kennedy Rhue and Kaytlin Stacey.
- Starter Lily Thorpe held Presbyterian scoreless on four hits through five innings before the Blue Hose scored twice in the sixth.
- Charleston responded by tying the game in the bottom of the inning when pinch hitter Leela Langston singled in Miller.
- Presbyterian scored twice in the eighth, and the Cougars fell short in their half of the inning despite a sacrifce fly by Rhue.
- Thorpe did not allow an earned run and walked only one in six innings in the circle.Â
Game 2 Summary
- Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Jay Wrightsman singled, stole second and scored on a groundout by Rhue.
- The steal was Wrightsman's 16th of the season without being caught.
- The Cougars were behind again, 4-1, heading into the bottom of the fourth before beginning their comeback.Â
- Karlee Hughes and Julia Sitterding had RBI singles, and Wrightsman brought home the tie run with a groundout.
- Charleston took advantage of a pair of Blue Hose errors to score three more in its half of the fifth to build a 7-4 lead.
- Rhue finished with three hits in the nightcap and had four on the day along with Miller.
- Izzy Alley went the distance for her second win of the season.
