Mathis Stymies Dragons in One-Hit Shutout

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Mackenzie Mathis tossed the second one-hitter since College of Charleston joined the CAA, giving the Cougars a 1-0 victory over Drexel in the series opener at Patriots Point.

- Mathis had a no-hitter with two outs in the seventh before allowing a clean ground single to left.
- The one-hitter was just the second by a Cougar in the past 13 years, joining Carli McCants vs. UNCW in 2022.
- Mathis recorded the second shutout of her freshman season and lowered her ERA in CAA play to 1.58.
- She faced the minimum 12 batters over the first four innings, aided by a tag 'em out, throw 'em out double play by Karlee Hughes.
- Mathis, who struck out four, allowed a walk in the fifth and sixth before retiring the first two batters in the seventh.
- The Cougars scored the only run in the fourth when Leela Langston doubled, stole second and came across when the throw went into left field.
