Alex Lyon tossed five shutout innings in relief to help lead College of Charleston baseball to a 5-2 victory over UNCW Sunday afternoon at Patriots Point.

With the win, the Cougars improve to 24-18 overall and 8-10 in the CAA while the Seahawks slide to 23-19 and 11-7 in league play.

CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST UNCW:
- Senior Tyler Sorrentino went 2-for-4 in the win, doubling in graduate Will Baumhofer in the second for the early 1-0 lead.
- After UNCW plated a pair in the third, graduate Avery Neaves leveled the contest at two with an RBI single up the middle to score senior Ben Venables.
- CofC tacked on a pair of runs in the seventh to take a 4-2 advantage before adding an insurance run in the eighth on a senior Dylan Johnson sac bunt.
- Sophomore Hayden Thomas started on the hill for Charleston, allowing two runs over four innings of work. Thomas fanned four Seahawks in the no decision.
- Lyon picked up his seventh victory of the season, allowing just two hits over the five scoreless frames, striking out four batters.

OF NOTE:
- Charleston is 25-26 all-time against UNCW and 16-10 at home.
- Lyon appeared in his 70th career appearance out of the bullpen; the fifth pitcher in program history to reach 70 relief outings.
- Lyon's seven wins as a reliever are the most since Carter Love went 7-0 in 2018.
- Sorrentino reached base in five of his nine plate appearances across Saturday and Sunday's contests.
- Charleston improved to 20-0 this season when leading after eight innings and 217-12 under head coach Chad Holbrook.
- Holbrook picked up his 449th career win as a head coach and 249th with the Cougars.
