
Women's Soccer Faces Second SEC Matchup at Texas

AUSTIN, TEXAS – The College of Charleston women's soccer team faces Texas Sunday Aug. 31 in Austin with kickoff set for 2:00 p.m. ET.
Thursday evening the Cougars found their first victory of the season over Houston Christian winning 3-0. Thursday's game puts CofC at 1-1-1 on the season. Charleston found success outshooting Houston Christian 21-3.
Redshirt-senior Faith Slimmer scored the first goal of the evening, before Maggie Heffernan and Sienna Petro each netted goals to secure the Charleston victory.
The Charleston defense held the Huskies to a scoreless game with goalies Ainsley Chunn and Lucia Touwsma facing zero shots.
The Texas Longhorns enter the contest with a 1-3-1 record so far this season. The Longhorns fell to Northwestern State 2-3 to open the season before defeating Long Beach State 2-1.
Texas fell to in-state rival TCU on Thursday night 3-2. Texas outshot TCU 13-7 in the second half but could not find a finisher. TCU scored the game winning goal in the 85th minute.
The contest Sunday afternoon will mark the second time The College and the Longhorns have met. UT clinched the first meeting 3-1. Charleston first met Texas in the Texas Invitational in Aug. of 2016. Charleston recorded 13 shots with three on goal.
CofC returns home after Labor Day to face No. 19 Wake Forest Thursday Sept. 4 at Patriots Point. Admission is free. The game will feature a welcome back students promotion with the chance to win a 40" smart TV.
