Women's Soccer Takes the Win on Senior Day

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's soccer team defeated Presbyterian 2-0 at Patriots Point on Sunday, September 14.

The Cougar's record is now 4-3-1.

Before the match, Charleston celebrated five seniors (Lilli Ray, Bubbles Dever, Hope Slimmer, Emma Wennar, and Avery Nassetta) and two graduate students (Maggie Wadsworth and Faith Slimmer) along with their friends and families.

Charleston offense dominated with the Cougars taking 20 shots compared to Presbyterian's one. CofC had 11 shots in the first half, and the Blue Hose had zero. Cougar offense was able to draw three corners in the first half and two in the second.

With just over five left to play in the first half, Bella Antonio found the connection to sink a goal taking the Cougars into the locker room ahead of the Blue Hose1-0. Antonio had two shots on goal Sunday afternoon.

After halftime, Maggie Heffernan found an assist from Faith Slimmer and was able to knock the header into the goal making the score 2-0. Heffernan had three shots against the Blue Hose. Slimmer had two shots in addition to her assist. As a sophomore, Heffernan has scored three goals with her first ever collegiate goal on the road against Houston Christian. As a freshman, Heffernan had two shots on goal for the whole season but as a sophomore, she has six so far.

Senior Emma Wennar had five shots and Bubbles Dever had two. Charleston had 10 shots on goal total.

The defense held off Presbyterian to allow goalkeeper Ainsley Chunn to force zero saves.
