CofC Dominate CAA Opener for Third Straight Clean Sheet

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Bella Antonio netted a brace as College of Charleston women's soccer team dominated Monmouth, defeating the Hawks 4-0 at Hesse Field Thursday evening.

Charleston recorded its third straight shutout, improving to 5-3-1 and 1-0 in the CAA. With the loss, Monmouth slips to 5-3-1 and 0-1 in the conference.

CofC's offense controlled the pitch throughout the game with three Cougars finding goals. Antonio started CAA play right taking a Monmouth turnover straight to the goal to make the score 1-0 just 12 minutes into the match. CofC took a 1-0 advantage into the break, taking five shots with three corners over the first 45.

The Cougars came out swinging in the second half, putting three shots into the back of the net. Antonio collected her brace in the 56th minute, converting on the penalty kick.

Just eight minutes later, Bubbles Dever found herself battling on the sideline, nearly going out of bounds, but recovered the ball and found a shot attempt to be blocked by a defender. On the ricochet Dever found another opportunity mid-fall to put the ball in the back of the net.

38 seconds after Dever's heroic goal, Emma Wennar found herself at the top of the box with an open shot sinking the goal to finalize the evening's scoring.

Thursday's win marks the third Cougar shutout in a row. Goalkeeper Ainsley Chunn saved four Hawk shots in the victory.
