CONWAY, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's cross country team had six additions to the 8k top 10 list and a new school record at the Chanticleer Challenge Friday.
Declan Byrne broke the school record in the 8k with a time of 24:33.75, helping the men's team to a third place finish out of nine schools. The women's squad also finished third out of eight teams.
Following Byrne were freshmen
Adrian Miller and
Thomas Flaig who find themselves in the two and three spot on the 8k top 10 list with times of 24:36.23 and 24:45.49.
Will Buckley now sits in the sixth spot on the list having raced a 24:53.96 8k.
Andrew Catapano and
Roger Brown clinch the ninth and tenth spots on the list. Head coach
Chris Bailey previously held the seventh spot on the list.
The men finished with 61 points defeating CAA foe, UNCW.
On the women's side, the team scored 69 points and surpassed UNCW.
Nine Charleston women found personal records with freshman
Cara Grace Phillips leading the team with a time of 18:04.59. Phillips finished 10th scoring 10 points for Charleston. Close behind was sophomore
Bella Hudson who also set a personal record of 18:08.82 placing 12th scoring 12 points.
Lucy Alexander and
Gail Vaikutis ran their first collegiate races Friday evening for the Cougars. Alexander finished 21st with a time of 18:31.02. Vaikutis crossed the line in 18:44.69 finishing 27th for Charleston.

Up Next
The next meet The College will travel to is the Fire Tower Project in Boone, N.C. This will mark Charleston's second time traveling to Boone this season. The meet is Friday, Oct. 3 with the men going off at 5:00 p.m. and the women following at 5:40. The men will race their second 8k of the season and the women will race their first 6k of 2025.
