CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston baseball head coach Chad Holbrook announced the addition of 2018 Hall of Fame inductee Lee Curtis to his staff Thursday as an assistant coach.
Curtis returns to The College after two seasons as an assistant with USC Sumter. With the Fire Ants, Curtis worked with hitters, infielders and outfielders.
"We are so excited to add one of our all-time greats to our coaching staff," said Holbrook. "Lee Curtis is one of the greatest Cougars of all time. He's a Hall of Famer and he knows what being a Cougar is all about. He has an abundance of knowledge, and our players will benefit greatly from him. He's also a tireless worker who will jump right in the foxhole with our players. I'm just so happy for our current players, our former players and our entire program!"
Inducted into the College of Charleston Athletics Hall of Fame in 2018, Curtis hit .404 in his two years with the Cougars from 2002-03, which remains as the program's all-time career mark. A two-time SoCon Player of the Year, Curtis also earned Collegiate Baseball and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-American honors both seasons.
In 2003, Curtis batted .399 while recording 26 doubles, 11 triples, 11 home runs, 64 RBI and 20 stolen bases: the only player in college baseball that year to have double-figure totals in all five statistical categories. Following the campaign, Curtis was selected in the eighth round of the 2023 Major League Baseball Draft by the Boston Red Sox.
"I am incredibly grateful to Coach Holbrook for believing in me and giving me this opportunity to be a Cougar again," said Curtis. "I'm excited to work with the baseball program that has been in my heart since I first stepped on that field 23 years ago. I'm also very thankful for Coach Tim Medlin at USC Sumter for giving me the opportunity to step back into baseball."
Charleston begins the 2026 season Feb. 13 at Patriots Point versus Rutgers. Fans can purchase season tickets to all 31 home games for just $175 by visiting cofcsports.com/tickets or contacting the ticket office at (843) 953-2632 or athleticstickets@cofc.edu.
