
Men's Soccer Travels to Campbell

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's soccer team will travel to Campbell on Saturday, October 3 to take on the Campbell Fighting Camels in CAA play. Action is set for 6:00 p.m.

QUICK KICKS — Charleston has started the 2026 season 5-2-2 and 1-2-1 in CAA play. The Cougars recently fell to UNCW 2-1 on Sunday at Patriots Point.
Charleston previously defeated then #1 South Carolina 2-1 on September 22 in Columbia. The victory marked the first time in program history that Charleston defeated the No. 1 team in the country. The Cougars have now won four of their last five matches against ranked opponents and have defeated a ranked opponent in each of the last three seasons.
Charleston is led by Keith Wiggans who is entering his seventh season at the helm of the Cougars. Wiggans' assistant coaches are Jet Terry (2nd season), Ernesto Aguinaga-Hernandez (2nd season) and Jake Douvas (1st season). Anissa Williams also enters her first season with the Cougars as the team's Head of Data Analytics.
LAST TIME OUT — College of Charleston men's soccer lost 2-1 Sunday evening to UNCW at Patriots Point.
UNCW opened the scoring in the 40th minute for the 1-0 advantage. Charleston's Arnau Olle leveled the match in the 51st minute on a free kick. Olle sent the ball, placing it perfectly into the right side of the net. The goal was Olle's second of the season.
The Seahawks took the lead again in 78th minute to secure the victory. CofC eclipsed double-digit shot attempts for the fifth match this season with 10 in the contest.
BENDVOLD'S BREAKOUT– Bendvold has made an impact throughout the 2026 season, earning CAA Offensive Player of the Week honors after recording a goal and an assist in Charleston's 2-1 win over Campbell. The junior continued his strong play against No. 1 South Carolina, scoring both goals in the Cougars' historic 2-1 victory, including the game-winner in the 85th minute to his second CAA Offensive Player of the Week of the season. The Begby, Norway, native, now has three goals and two assists through eight matches this season.
LAST TIME VS. THE CAMELS — The Cougars opened CAA play with a gritty 2-1 victory over Campbell on August 28. After the Cougars' first three shots came up empty, including one that rattled the crossbar, Stian Bendvold laced a shot into the top right corner of the net in the 14th minute to put the Cougars in front 1-0.
After weathering a goal and five early shots from CofC, Campbell broke through in the 22nd minute, leveling the match with a strike from just outside the box. Battling back and forth, Michiharu Takanashi put CofC back on top as he netted his second goal of the season in the 37th minute. Takanashi snuck the ball past the outstretched arm of the keeper and into the bottom right corner of the net.
Charleston outshot Campbell 7-4 in the first half and the Cougars headed into the locker room with a one goal advantage. Martin Brink collected his first save of match as Charleston continued to hold a 2-1 lead with 20 minutes left to play.
After a brawl in the 81st minute that led to multiple cards, including a red card for both teams, Charleston looked to close out the game playing 10-on-10.
Following a Camels corner in the 86th minute, Brink corralled Campbell's final attempt, recording his second save and helping CofC secure the 2-1 victory

THE WIGGANS FILE — Keith Wiggans enters his seventh season as head coach at his alma mater in 2026 after being promoted from associate head coach in December 2019. Wiggans spent 11 seasons serving under his college coach and the program's all-time winningest coach, Ralph Lundy, who retired in following the 2019 season. Wiggans was an assistant coach for nine years and associate head coach for two seasons before taking over the program. He was part of the staff which won the Southern Conference title and made its fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2010.
