Antonio’s Late Penalty Kick Lifts Cougars to Draw at North Florida

Jacksonville, Fla. - The College of Charleston women's soccer team battled back late to earn a 1-1 draw with North Florida on Thursday, August 27.
The Cougar defense shined in the first half, with three Osprey shots in the first 12 minutes proving unsuccessful with several defensive blocks and a save by goalkeeper, Ainsley Chunn.
Chunn earned her first save of the match in the ninth minute. She faced the next shot on goal in the 24th minute that she punched out to keep the match scoreless.
Charleston displayed an aggressive first half, posting a season-high eight shots. Bella Antonio collected three, with one on goal, as both teams entered the locker room scoreless going into the half.
Chunn's third save came in the 50th minute, leaping to tip the shot out over top of the goal.
Four back-to-back corner kicks showed signs of hope for the Cougars, but the match remained scoreless after a shot by Madeira Gwozdo in the 62nd minute resulted high.
The scoring drought was stopped by North Florida in the 72nd minute when they scored on a cross to take the late lead before the Cougars rallied back in the final few minutes with Bella Antonio scoring on a penalty kick resulting from a foul in the box, securing the draw.
Antonio tallied six shots, the highest of any Cougar in a single match this season. She also leads the team with three goals on the year.
Charleston returns home to Patriots Point on Sunday, August 30 to face off against UMass Lowell. Kickoff is at 6:00pm and will feature an 80's theme, with party accessories being given away at the gate (while supplies last).
