Women’s Soccer Earns 250th Program Win

Charleston, S.C. - The College of Charleston women's soccer team earned the program's 250th win with a 3-0 victory over UMass Lowell on Sunday, August 30, at Patriots Point.
Charleston displayed an aggressive first half, tallying a season-high ten shots. Maggie Heffernan and Ellie Stewert recorded three apiece, with Stewart putting one on frame.
Beginning in the 27th minute, the Cougars earned three corner kicks over a three minute-span as they looked to break through the River Hawk defense. Despite opportunities on both sides, the match remained scoreless heading into halftime.
Charleston carried its momentum into the second half, firing three shots in the opening five minutes.
Senior Bella Antonio broke the scoring drought in the 52nd minute, finding the right side of the net off a cross from Kassy Uzelman. Just 34 seconds later, Sienna Ward doubled the Cougars' lead with the first goal of her career, converting a pass from Mary Martin Spinner.
The Cougars continued to apply pressure, with Lyla Schick adding another milestone in the 77th minute. Schick battled through defenders in front of the goal to score the first goal of her career and give Charleston a 3-0 advantage.
Chunn and Vrataric combined for the shutout, recording two saves apiece.
Charleston finished with 20 shots, including nine on goal, marking season highs in both categories.
The Cougars will stay at Patriots Point, as they prepare to take on South Carolina State on Thursday, September 3. Kickoff will be at 7:00pm, and will feature a fan appreciation promotion, with a raffle for a custom College of Charleston JBL speaker.
