Charleston, S.C.- The College of Charleston women's soccer team will take on South Carolina State at Patriots Point this Thursday, September 3 at 7:00pm.
The Cougars are coming off a historic 250th program win in their 3-0 victory over UMass Lowell on Sunday, August 30. The match featured several Cougar milestones, including first career goals for sophomores Sienna Ward and Lyla Schick.
After a scoreless first half, Bella Antonio found the right side of the net off a pass by Kassy Uzleman to give Charleston the lead in the 52nd minute. Just 34 seconds later, Ward found the back of the net on a pass from Mary Martin Spinner at the front of the box. The quick turnaround marked the fourth fastest time between goals in Charleston history.
The Cougars added a third goal in the 77th minute, when Uzelman earned her second assist of the match, sending a cross to Schick, who broke through the defense to extend Charleston's lead.
The victory tied Charleston's season-high goals, and established season-highs in assists, points, and shots with two, 10, and 20, respectively. The win also marked the Cougars' first shutout of the season, with Ainsley Chunn and Mia Vrataric combining in goal.
Thursday's match will mark the eighth meeting in program history between the Cougars and the Bulldogs. Charleston currently has a perfect 7-0 record in the series, with the most recent meeting resulting in a 7-0 victory in 2024. This is the Bulldogs second season under head coach, Andrew Richardson. The Bulldogs enter the match with a 0-5 record on the season.
The match will feature a custom CofC JBL speaker raffle as part of Fan Appreciation Night. The contest will be streamed live on FloCollege Sports, and live stats can be found here.
