Thaddeus Street, Jr. (Posthumous), Class of '35 (Golf)
Thaddeus Street, a two-time Charleston County Club champion, was a member of the College's first men's golf team in 1933-34. Street qualified for the National Amateur and Intercollegiate Tournaments. He also won the Charleston and Carolina amateur championships. In 1933-34, the Maroons bested Georgetown by a 6-2 match score. In 1934-35, the College crushed NC State, 16.5 to 1.5 and the squad was the lynchpin for the growth of the program. Street graduated from the College of Charleston in 1935 and later from Harvard Business School in 1937. A former member of the Board of Trustees of the College of Charleston and former chairman, he worked hard for the development of the Port of Charleston and was largely instrumental in obtaining $21 million in state funds for the ports improvement. He was a member of the Alumni Association of the College of Charleston for more than 20 years and was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.
