Remus Harper, Jr., Class of '72 (Basketball)
Remus Harper was the first black student-athlete to play at the College of Charleston under head coach Fred Daniels. He was a standout on the basketball court and in the classroom at Bonds-Wilson High School in North Charleston. Harper was the basketball team captain and class valedictorian. He was not motivated by the historical implications of his decision, but by his desire to play the sport. Harper graduated in four years with a degree in business administration, setting the stage for a 31-year career at General Motors and later into ministry work as the current pastor at Shiloh AME Church in North Charleston.
