Targeted Academic Support


 

Academic Mentors
SAAS staff members work one-on-one with student-athletes who need assistance in developing college readiness skills including communication, time management, organization and general study skills.

Accountability Meetings
SAAS advisors meet weekly or bi-weekly with targeted student-athletes in order to assist them in holding themselves accountable in the classroom and to reinforce skills needed for academic success.

Cougar Academic and Resource Engagement (CARE)
The purpose of the CARE requirement is to assist student-athletes in structuring their approach to studying in a manner that serves their learning styles and academic developmental needs, while providing accountability and encouraging student-athletes to grow toward independent self-management.

Learning Enhancement Program
A learning specialist works with student-athletes to:
  • Address specific learning concerns that arise with student-athletes once they are on campus.
  • Liaise with The College's Center for Disability Services to empower student-athletes as they apply for and appropriately use reasonable accommodations for diagnosed learning disabilities or short term accommodations for injuries.
  • Coordinate with Sports Medicine to ensure NCAA student-athletes have the appropriate documentation for the use of banned substances to treat attentional disorders and coordinates psycho educational testing for NCAA student-athletes when necessary.
