- Title:
- Assistant Coach
Kelley Dillon will be in her fourth year as an assistant coach on the College of Charleston softball staff in the 2016-17 academic year.
Through her first three seasons, she has assisted head coach Linda Kalafatis and the CofC staff to a 99-68 record, and a number of program records, including the highest fielding percenatge (.974) and fewest errors (42) in 2016, and top-10 marks in batting average, hits, runs scored, and on-base percentage.
Dillon returned to the College where she spent two years as a player before transferring to South Carolina to finish her career.
“Kelley joined our staff just as practice started and she’s been a valuable member, especially since we haven’t been at full staff with a gap in the pitching coach position,” said Kalafatis. “Her presence has allowed me to conduct the bullpen sessions while other parts of team practice may be going on.
Kelley spent time as a player at the College of Charleston before moving on to South Carolina and learned a lot from her experiences at each institution. Coach Dillon has been selfless in her time as our volunteer coach and has been able to contribute in many ways already. We are fortunate to have someone of her quality on our staff.”
As a Cougar, Dillon was a second-team all-Southern Conference selection and hit .269 over her two years on the team. In her sophomore season, she moved from third base to first base and upped her batting average to .279 and hit four homeruns and 11 doubles.
She transferred to South Carolina to begin her junior season and started in 60 games as a Gamecock and finished her career with the second-highest fielding percentage at first base in South Carolina’s Southeastern Conference era (since 1997).
Dillon, a native of Hanahan, S.C., was a 2012 SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll inclusion.
She served as a counselor and instructor for softball clinics at both CofC and South Carolina, teaching young players the fundamentals and specific skills needed to excel at the sport.
“I am very excited to be on staff with the Cougars and working alongside Coach K. and Coach Marder,” said Dillon. “It’s an amazing opportunity and learning experience.”
