"The Charleston Southern meet will be a great opener to our outdoor season," said head coach Amy Schuckert. "With the outdoor season, we have the addition of a few more events like the hammer, discus and javelin. We've been training hard at these events and it's nice to finally get the opportunity to see what we can do in these areas. It is also great to have a meet close to home where our supporters can come out and watch us compete."
The Cougars are coming off a successful indoor campaign that saw them finish seventh at the SoCon championships. Kosha Lance set a conference record in the weight throw with a toss of 18.32 meters.
Last season, Lance became the first Cougar in school history to qualify for a NCAA Regional when she qualified in the hammer throw. While at the competition, held in Gainesville, Fla., Lance finished 24th.
The Cougars are also looking for Ashley Arnold to earn points for the team. Arnold, a freshman, was a second place finisher in the 5k while earning fourth place in the 3k at the indoor championships.
