The Eagles dropped to 1-9 overall and 0-1 in the SoCon, while Charleston improved to 5-2 and 2-1.
Georgia Southern fell behind 1-0 as the visiting Cougars swept the doubles matches. At No. 3, Tom Green and Charles-Henri Trottet fought back from a 0-3 deficit but ultimately lost 8-4 to Charleston's Justin Malina and Perry Allen. Lasha Janashia and Knorr were involved in a see-saw match at No. 2 that was tied at 4 after eight games, but Bastian Moldhenke and Jimmy Petit rallied to win four consecutive games and take the match 8-4, clinching the point for Charleston. Vincent Patry and Danie van den Heever came out of the gates quickly at No. 1, jumping to a 5-0 lead against Philipp Koller and Timo Siebert. They could not close out the match, however, and ended up losing 9-8(6) in a tiebreaker.
The Eagles were unable to get back on track during singles play as Charleston posted the first five victories to claim the win.
Diego Flores lost 6-1, 6-3 to Koller at the fifth spot in the first singles match to be completed. Shortly thereafter, van den Heever fell to Moldhenke at No. 2, and the Cougars clinched the match when Malina edged Green 7-5, 6-4 at the third slot. Charleston extended its lead to 5-0 when Allen triumphed over Nathan Tingen 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6.
Meanwhile, Patry and Siebert were dueling at No. 1 in a contest that seemed especially well-matched. Siebert won a tight first set 6-4 and withstood a second-set onslaught by Patry to prevail in a tiebreaker.
Knorr garnered his victory in the final singles match to be completed, beating Liran Kling 6-1, 3-6, 7-6(5) at the No. 4 position. With the win, Knorr takes over sole possession of the team lead with his four wins during spring matches.
The Eagles will be back on the courts Sunday at 1:00 p.m. to square off against another SoCon rival as UNC Greensboro comes to town. Charleston travels to Chattanooga for a March 6th contest at 12:00 PM.
