CofC women to face UNCG in SoCon semi-finals

The College of Charleston will face top-seeded UNC Greensboro in the semi-final round of the Southern Conference women's soccer tournament Fri., Nov. 9, at 4:30 p.m. in Davidson, N.C.

The fourth-seeded Cougars played visiting Western Carolina to a 1-1 draw Sun., Nov. 4. The match went into penalty kicks where the final kick by junior Danielle Jordan pushed Charleston over the Catamounts 10-9, and into the next round of tournament play.

Sophomore Chrissy Caruso scored the lone goal for CofC with an assist from Jordan and Megan Manthey. Jordan's six assists lead the team and have her tied for third in the SoCon assists rankings.

UNCG hosted Elon during the first round of SoCon tournament play. The Spartans shutout the Phoenix 1-0 to win their 24^th consecutive match against a conference opponent. Kelly Attayek scored the game-winning goal for the Spartans Sunday afternoon. Attayek leads the team with nine goals and five assists for 23 points on the season.

Spartan goalie Katherine Ryan has recorded eight shutouts and has allowed only 12 goals in 1264 minutes of play. UNCG edged the Cougars in their meeting earlier this season, 3-2 in overtime.

The winner of Friday's competition will advance to the final game at 1 p.m. on Sun., Nov. 11 and face the winner of the Davidson vs. Furman match.
