
College of Charleston Women?s Soccer Team Battles Georgia Southern to 1-1 Draw

STATESBORO, GA. ? The College of Charleston women's soccer team and Georgia Southern battled to a 1-1, double overtime draw on Sunday afternoon in Statesboro, Ga.
With the draw, the Cougars move to 9-3-3 on the year, 2-2-2 in the SoCon, while Georgia Southern goes to 4-6-3 overall, 2-3-1 in the SoCon.
In the first half, Georgia Southern got on the scoreboard in the 32nd minute when Ashley Toussaint scored her 10th goal of the season. Abby Wheeler and Chelsea Kephart were credited with assists on the play.
In the second half, the Cougars knotted the game up at one in the 52nd minute when Megan Manthey scored her eighth goal of the year and second in as many games. Katie Browne was credited with an assist on the score.
Statistically, the Cougars dominated the second half, as they out shot Georgia Southern 14-3 in the period. The team, however, failed to score again after the Manthey tally and the game proceeded to go to overtime.
In the overtime periods, Charleston once again held an edge in shots (4-1), but could not cash in on any of their attempts and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Cougars out shot Georgia Southern in the match 25-9 and held a 12-3 edge in corner kicks. Goalie Erin Smith kept Georgia Southern off the scoreboard after giving up the first period goal and made a total of four saves on the day.
The Cougars return to action on Friday, Oct. 17th when they hit the road to face Samford. The match is set to start at 7 p.m.
