The College of Charleston men's soccer team continues Southern Conference play on Saturday, Oct. 18th when they host rival UNC Greensboro at Patriots Point Soccer Stadium. The match is set to start at 7 p.m.
The Cougars come into the match with an 8-5-0 overall record, 2-2-0 in the SoCon, after the team defeated Georgia Southern 2-1 on Tuesday night.
The Cougars are led offensively by junior forward Kareem Yearwood, who has tallied 11 points (five goals, one assist) on the season.
Freshman goalie Clark Hankins has been impressive in net for the Cougars, as he's earned victories in four of the six starts he has made on the year. Hankins has made a total of 20 saves and is second in the Southern Conference in goals against average with a 0.81 mark.
UNC Greensboro comes into the match with a 5-8-1 overall mark, 1-2-0 in the SoCon. The Spartans dropped their last match to the nation's number one team Wake Forest 6-0 on Wednesday night.
UNC Greensboro is led offensively by Tim Masters (three goals, one assist) and Jokull Elisabetarson (two goals, three assists), who have each tallied seven points on the season. Nate Berry has been the team's primary goalie making six starts and has made 24 saves.
Last season, the Cougars split two games with UNC Greensboro. A two-goal performance by Yearwood paced Charleston to 3-1 win at Greensboro during the regular season. The Spartans, however, got the last laugh on the year, as they knocked off the Cougars in the semifinals of the SoCon Tournament in a 2-1 double-overtime thriller. All-time, UNC Greensboro has a 14-5 edge in the series against the College of Charleston.
Also, two of the winningest coaches in the country will face off on Saturday night in Cougar head coach Ralph Lundy and Spartan head man Michael Parker. Coming into the season, Parker was the NCAA's winningest active coach with a 478-171-21 overall mark, while Lundy ranked fifth on the list with a 373-238-40 overall record in 32 years of coaching, (21 of which have been spent at CofC).
