After a scoreless first half, senior Matt Morris put the Cougars on the board with his fifth score of the season at the 61:37 mark. Morris picked up a pass from fellow senior Jake Helmig and struck from 10 yards out to give Charleston a 1-0 lead over Maryland.
CofC (10-9-0, 4-2 SoCon) held the lead for nine minutes before Terp Billy Cortes evened the score, rising above a group and knocking it in off a header from 14 yards out.
The Cougars fired off five shots in less than two minutes, beginning with successive shots by freshman Francis Twohig. Maryland goalkeeper Zac MacMath deflected Twohig's first shot, which he rebounded to strike a second time one minute later at 77:08.
Senior Zach Prince picked up Twohig's blocked shot and struck nine seconds later, shooting wide of the net. Freshman defender Robbie Benson drilled a shot at 77:34 which was caught by MacMath for his second stop in under a minute.
Maryland (12-4-2) responded with a pair of shots in the ensuing minutes before Casey Townsend slipped one past CofC goalkeeper Clark Hankins with a left-footed, close-range shot off a pass by Cortes. The goal gave the Terps their first lead of the match, with just under eight minutes to play.
Helmig took the final shot on goal for CofC just seconds later, forcing MacMath to make his sixth save of the evening. His Cougar counterpart, Hankins, made his second and final stop off a strike by Maryland's Kaoru Forbess at 83:46.
Charleston outshot Maryland 13-12, while the Terps held a 7-3 edge on corner kicks.
The Cougars return to Patriots Point Stadium for their final match of the regular season against Furman on Tuesday at 3 p.m. The game, originally scheduled for Oct. 29 but postponed because of inclement weather, will be the team's senior day. Five seniors will be honored before kickoff.
