MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - No. 67 College of Charleston women's tennis fell to 61st-ranked Wake Forest on Wednesday afternoon at the Tennis Center at Patriots Point.

The Demon Deacons (6-6, 0-1 ACC) took a 1-0 lead after the doubles competition, sweeping all three matches. Senior Holly Dowse (Tuncurry, Australia/Forster) and junior Emma Hayman (Wanganui, New Zealand/New Mexico) dropped an 8-4 decision at the top spot to end their four-match win streak. Southern Conference Player of the Week Kinsey Casey (Alpharetta, Ga./Northview) also lost her match alongside partner Keely Mulligan (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep), 8-6, at the No. 3 spot to end her four-match streak in doubles competition.

The Cougars (8-5, 3-0 SoCon) picked up two points in singles competition with wins at the No. 2 and 6 spots. Hayman defeated Wake's Kathryn Talbert 6-4, 6-3 to pull CofC within one point (2-1) after Dowse lost a 6-0, 6-1 match as the top seed to Sasha Kulikova. Hayman is now 6-4 on the year from the No. 2 spot.

Freshman Irene Viana (Paris, France/Lycee de Montgeron) also recorded a win for the Cougars in singles action. She returned from a 6-4 loss in the first set to capture a 7-6, 1-0 victory over the next two sets. Viana is now on a five-match streak in singles competition.
