BOONE, N.C. – Donald Sims scored a game-high 32 points as Appalachian State ended College of Charleston's seven-game winning streak with an 85-70 victory on Thursday night at the Holmes Center.
The Mountaineers (14-14, 9-8) won their second in a row and their sixth in the last seven games by shooting 50 percent from the field (32-of-64) and outrebounding CofC, 38-29.
The Cougars (22-8, 14-3), who clinched the Southern Conference South Division regular-season title with a 75-49 rout of Samford on Monday night, were led by 23 points from senior All-America candidate Andrew Goudelock (Stone Mountain, Ga.). They couldn't find a way to stop ASU in the second half, as the Mountaineers shot a scorching 63.3 percent (19-of-30) and scored 48 points to pull away from a 37-37 halftime tie in which Goudelock made a last-second jumper heading into the locker room.
Appalachian State built a 10-point lead, 64-54, in less than a two-minute stretch on a pair of threes by Sims and Jeremi Booth with 9:53 remaining in regulation. Sims made 6-of-9 from three-point range, while Booth added 14 points and Omar Carter 13 to avenge a 73-64 road loss on Jan. 22 in Charleston.
CofC will close out the regular season at Western Carolina (16-14, 11-6) on Saturday, Feb. 26, at 4:30 p.m. (ET) in Cullowhee, N.C.

POSTGAME QUOTES
College of Charleston Head Coach Bobby Cremins
On the game …
“Appalachian State played a great second half. They played a great game and outplayed us. (Appalachian State head coach) Jason (Capel) did a great job and Donald Sims is something else. He made some great shots tonight. Our conference just doesn't get enough credit. There are so many good teams in our league. I'm very proud of our team. We had an opportunity in the second half. We went up two, we had the ball and I thought we had a great opportunity there. We couldn't maintain it and had some turnovers. They did a great job double teaming Drew (Goudelock). Tonight, it was Appalachian's night. They were really tough and they are definitely going to be a factor in the (SoCon) Tournament. No excuses for us. We put a lot of emphasis into winning our last few games, because a year ago, when we were making a run at the regular-season championship, our last two games were at Wofford and at Furman. I noticed the same thing this year that we had two rough road games at Appalachian and Western (Carolina). That's why it was so important that we win those games previous to this road trip.”
On the difference in the ballgame …
“We just weren't ourselves. Appalachian just outplayed us. We weren't making shots. I felt like we settled down (in the second half) and Drew got hot. Drew is our motor and makes us go. We put a lot of pressure on him, sometimes unfairly, but he's the guy who makes us go. He's a great player. Appalachian got hot and made some great shots. Sims was fantastic. I give him a lot of credit tonight. He has great range and he's a winner. That's one of the best performances against our team that I've seen all year. He showed his true grit tonight.”
College of Charleston Senior Guard Andrew Goudelock
On the difference in the ballgame …
“They got the loose balls and just outplayed us. Once a team gets going and they are at home, it's hard to stop them from getting on a run. We weren't short on ball screens. They were getting uncontested layups and loose balls. We weren't getting on the floor and rebounding. They beat us in every part of the game in the second half. When we went up (by two), it seemed like we did have control, but things just happened. Donald Sims and their other guys started making shots. It's tough when you are on the road, when you aren't playing your top defense and rebounding to your best ability to get a win. I had some open shots and missed some shots tonight. I had a few turnovers. I just need to be stronger with the ball.”
