3/28/2011 11:32:00 PM | Men's Tennis
The contest will be a rematch of last year's Southern Conference semifinals, which the Phoenix won 4-3 at Patriots Point Tennis Center. CofC won its earlier match in 2010, 4-3.
Both teams are riding five-match win streaks and are a perfect 3-0 against SoCon opponents. Elon was ranked 72nd nationally in the Mar. 15 Intercollegiate Tennis Association men's rankings, but have since fallen off the list. Phoenix seniors Phil Nemec and Chase Helpingstine are currently ranked 35th in the country in doubles and boast an 11-1 record. They will face CofC senior Lukas Koncilia (Tyrol, Austria) and sopohomore Kyle Parker (Richmond, Va.) at the top doubles spot.
The Cougars (9-4, 3-0 SoCon) went 2-0 last week with 7-0 sweeps of Furman and Wofford. Head coach Jay Bruner's team became the first Southern Conference squad to defeat the Paladins at home in program history and the first team to sweep in Greenville, S.C. since Wake Forest in 2000. CofC then returned home for a repeat performance on its home courts against Wofford on Mar. 26.
While Koncilia and Parker lead the Cougars in doubles, junior Mickael Trintignac (Le Cannet, France) has a team-best 11-2 record in doubles from the No. 2 spot. Trintignac has won seven straight matches while seniors Tom Delme (Hamoir, Belgium) and Mickael Boyer (Meudon, France) boast five-match win streaks from the third and fifth spots, respectively.
First serve for Tuesday's match is at 2:30 p.m.
