CofC (14-5, 8-1 SoCon) is riding high on a five-match win streak that includes a 7-0 sweep of then-conference leaders UNC Greensboro. The Cougars are tied for first place in the SoCon with Elon, who also has its last regular-season match Thursday at Appalachian State. The final contest represents a last-ditch effort by both the Cougars and the Phoenix to win the conference title outright.
Junior Mickael Trintignac (Le Cannet, France) has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week after going 6-0 in singles and doubles for the week of Apr. 4-10. Other top performers for the Cougars include junior Tom Delme (Hamoir, Belgium) and sophomore Stephen Hardy (Fairfax, Va.) who are undefeated singles against conference opponents at the third and sixth spots respectively. The duo also plays together in doubles and sport a five-match win streak at the No. 2 spot.
The Eagles (9-11, 2-6 SoCon) have struggled in conference play despite outstanding performances by sophomore Melian Puigventos who has a 19-1 record as Georgia Southern's top singles player. The Southern Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Month for March, Puigventos has won his last 13 singles matches and is 8-0 against conference opponents. Puigventos joins Delme and Hardy as one of only four players who are undefeated in conference action.
Georgia Southern has one last regular-season match after meeting CofC, hosting the Mocs of Chattanooga on Saturday. College of Charleston will have the week to prepare for the Southern Conference championships in Chattanooga, beginning on Apr. 22.
